SoHo is the world’s great cast-iron neighborhood — the SoHo-Cast Iron Historic District preserves block after block of ornate 19th-century cast-iron loft buildings that once held factories and now hold luxury lofts, flagship stores, and galleries. The signature space here is the loft: a full floor of open, column-framed area, often converted from commercial use and renovated to the highest residential standard. Loft living rewrites the electrical job. Instead of a house’s panel or a rowhouse’s rooms, we’re wiring big open floors — lighting and power planned across an expanse with few walls, HVAC and smart-home systems integrated, and service and sub-metering brought up to what a modern luxury unit or a flagship store demands, all inside a landmarked cast-iron shell.

The converted loft buildings carry old commercial and early-residential wiring — sometimes three-phase, often a patchwork of decades of tenant work — that renovation has to bring to a modern residential standard: new unit panels, sub-metering, and service sized for the loads a luxury loft runs. Wiring an open floor is its own discipline, running power and lighting cleanly where there are no partition walls to hide them.

The luxury renovations add whole-loft smart-home and lighting-control systems, dedicated circuits for pro kitchens and home theaters, and EV-ready parking where it exists. And the flagship retail and galleries at street level need constant, high-spec fit-outs — precise lighting, display and equipment power, and inspections timed to a launch.

Everything in SoHo runs against the landmark district.
