What we install

Lutron systems we specify, install & program

Caséta dimmers & switches
The workhorse for NYC apartments — works without a neutral wire, so it fits pre-war boxes that rule out most smart switches.
RadioRA 3
Whole-home lighting control with keypads and multi-zone scenes, for larger apartments, brownstones, and full-floor renovations.
HomeWorks
Fully custom, design-led installations with engraved keypads and professional programming for townhouses and penthouses.
Pico remotes & keypads
Wall-mounted and handheld controls placed where you actually need them — no rewiring required to add a control point.
Motorized shades
Serena and Sivoia QS shades, powered, installed, and programmed to the same app and scenes as your lighting.
Three-way & companion controls
Multi-location switching done properly, including companion dimmers so every switch in the room behaves the way you expect.
Hardware

Lutron products we specify & install

Lutron Diva LED+ dimmer

Diva LED+ dimmer

The everyday workhorse. LED+ technology handles the dimmable bulbs people actually buy, and it fits standard pre-war boxes without a neutral.

Lutron Maestro humidity sensor switch

Maestro humidity sensor

Runs the bathroom fan on actual humidity instead of a timer — the practical fix for moisture, mould and mildew in NYC bathrooms.

Lutron Sunnata accessory switch

Sunnata & companion switches

Multi-location control done properly, so every switch in the room behaves the way you expect on three- and four-way circuits.

Lutron RadioRA keypad with wallplate

RadioRA 3 keypads

Engraved scene keypads — Counter, Island, Cabinet, Cove, All Off. One press sets a whole room, replacing a bank of switches.

Why MP Electric

A certified Lutron installer who is also your electrician

01

Preferred Pro certified

Trained and certified by Lutron to specify, install, and program their systems — not a general handyman guessing at the app.

02

Licensed master electrician

The wiring behind the system is ours too: boxes, neutrals, grounding, new circuits, and DOB permits where the work requires them.

03

Pre-war specialists

We work in old NYC buildings every day — shallow boxes, cloth wiring, no neutrals — and correct what we find instead of forcing a fixture on.

04

Board paperwork handled

Co-op and condo alteration agreements plus certificates of insurance are routine for us, so your project doesn't stall on paperwork.

FAQ

Lutron installation questions, answered

Are you a certified Lutron installer?
Yes. MP Electric NYC is a Lutron Preferred Pro. That means we're trained and certified by Lutron to specify, install, and program their lighting control systems — Caséta, RadioRA 3, and HomeWorks — and we're a licensed NYC master electrician on top of it, so the wiring behind the system is done to code and permitted where required.
Which Lutron system is right for my apartment?
For most NYC apartments and brownstones, Caséta is the sweet spot: it doesn't require a neutral wire, which matters enormously in pre-war buildings where the switch boxes often have no neutral. RadioRA 3 suits larger homes and whole-floor projects that need keypads, more zones, and shade integration. HomeWorks is for full custom installations — townhouses, penthouses, and design-led projects with dedicated programming.
Does Lutron Caséta work in a pre-war building without a neutral wire?
Yes — that's exactly why we recommend it so often in NYC. Caséta dimmers are designed to work without a neutral wire, so they can go into old pre-war boxes that would rule out most smart switches. We still open and check each box first: pre-war boxes are sometimes too shallow, ungrounded, or wired with cloth-insulated conductors, and those we correct as part of the install.
Can you install Lutron motorized shades?
Yes. We install and program Lutron motorized shades — including Serena and Sivoia QS — and coordinate the power. Shades need either a wired power source or battery packs; running power to the window is electrical work, so having your electrician handle both the shades and the lighting keeps the whole system on one control app and one point of responsibility.
Do I need a permit to install Lutron dimmers?
Straight device replacement — swapping existing switches for Lutron dimmers on existing circuits — is like-for-like work and generally doesn't require a DOB permit. Once the job adds new circuits, new wiring, or a lighting control panel, it does, and we file it. In a co-op or condo you'll typically also need an alteration agreement and a certificate of insurance, which we handle.
Can you supply the Lutron equipment, or do I buy it?
Either way. We can supply and install the whole system, or install equipment you've purchased — plenty of clients buy their own Caséta dimmers and have us do labor-only installation and programming. If you're buying it yourself, send us the model numbers first: we'll confirm the dimmers match your fixtures and your box conditions before you spend the money.
Will Lutron work with my existing LED fixtures?
Usually, but it needs checking. Not every LED bulb or fixture dims cleanly, and mismatched drivers are the number one cause of flicker, buzz, and limited dimming range. As a Preferred Pro we check the compatibility list against your actual fixtures and set the low-end trim during programming so the dimming is smooth all the way down.
Do you work with designers, architects, and GCs?
Regularly. On renovations we come in at rough-in to lay out keypad locations, zones, and shade pockets with the design team, then return for trim-out and programming. We also work with co-op and condo boards on the alteration paperwork and insurance certificates that these projects require.
